The President

I (and probably a lot of other people) have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that policemen are people, too.

The people that pull you over have lives. Parents, friends, maybe kids. They went to elementary school. Graduated college.

What about other people? Everybody has a past. Even that homeless person on the corner. He could have lived an affluent childhood. You never know.

Think about old people. You see them now, old and wrinkly. Sitting quietly, maybe receiving harsh looks from young, ignorant teenagers. But in fact, these old people used to be us. And we will, one day, become them.

So next time, before you judge someone for his job or his age, think about the experiences he may have had. Maybe instead of being angry at the one who pulled you over, rationalize. He probably doesn’t want to pull you over anyway.

Patents and copyright laws are evil. Pure and simple.

I don’t know why large corporations feel the need to put patents on their medical breakthroughs. All of the corporations’ breakthroughs, put together, could have the cure for AIDS. Cancer. Anything.

We could have flying cars by now. Or whatever. Human greed, again, stunting the growth of human development and progress. Forget the Crusades. Technology wasn’t even advancing that quickly. What about now, when we have the ability to share any idea? There are so many people in the world. How do we get by without collaboration? We can’t.

And as much as I hate sampling, it’s obviously an outlet for creativity. If corporations keep this up, what’s going to happen? We can’t publish anything anymore.

The price of rights to use songs in your work is absurdly high, and I don’t think nameless corporations should be so greedy. It’s pretty upsetting.

Bros before [women]

I don’t think many people, male or female, understand how immense it is when guys break the bro-code. When friends become bros, there’s an unspoken understanding that they will go lengths for each other, making sure that they can make each others’ lives as smooth as possible.

When a guy decides to give up a weekly activity for a girl, not only is he breaking the bro-code by letting go of a commitment, he’s pushing himself away from his bros.

And while having a girlfriend is cool for a bro and all that, there’s a chance that the girl won’t work out in the end. By then, the damage on the bros has been done.

Bros are a support group. A spouse is not. Even when you’re married, you’re expected to respect the bro code. Only by unforeseen, unfortunate circumstances are you allowed to leave. But even then, the rest of the bros need to pitch in to do everything they can to make a bro’s life right.

Everybody is beautiful in their own way.

It doesn’t matter if you’re short, tall, skinny, fat, black, white, yellow or green. There is something about you that will be appealing to someone else.

Of course, the media have trained all of us to look at physical appearances first, to have one-night stands and the like. I also understand that it’s exponentially more difficult for women to look past this fact than it is for men.

On another note, we have experienced a huge spike in childhood obesity in the past few years. But is it the fault of the kids, or is it the fault of the parents of said children?

Neither. The food industry is actually at fault here. The growth hormones given to farm animals are transfered through our food to our bodies. Human nature plays a big role in it, too. When you’re born, you have more tastebuds than you do when you die. That’s why kids taste sweet things more sweet and bitter things more bitter, and sweet things are deemed by instinct to be the safe foods to eat. That’s why kids are more likely to veer toward candy. If you take notice, it’s not just kids that are getting fat. It’s everybody. Including middle-aged and old people. The young-adult generation is the only one whose people are willing to take action against it and do exercises and diet or whatever.

But in the end it doesn’t really matter. We all die anyway. It just depends on who dies faster. There’s a difference between ejoying yourself and letting go of all inhibitions. But since everybody is beautiul anyway, does it really matter?

Disclaimer: this is not a happy post.

Atheism is the easy way out.

I can’t think of an easier way to avoid the true challenges of life. Non-Christians say that they don’t want to become Christians because of Christians. But I think Christians say that they don’t want to be Christians because it’s so hard.

It’s really unfortunate that it’s so hard to be a good Christian. It takes years of training and discipline to get to be good at this sort of thing. Don’t believe me?

There’s a reason there was only one person who could go through life without sin.

His name is Jesus. And he understands.

If there’s anything I learned this week, it’s that Christianity can’t be understood unless you open your mind. People tend to think it’s the other way around. Once you listen to everything that the Bible has to say or to offer, you just can’t deny its truth. Looking back on my non-Christian days, I just can’t believe how prideful and stupid I was.

What’s the point in fighting the truth when it’s right there?
